What groups are
Groups let you see the real-time timer status of other Divvy Time users — useful for co-working sessions, accountability pairs, or teams who want to coordinate breaks together.
Joining a group
Each group is identified by a passphrase — a short shared phrase that all group members use to join the same group.
To join: tap the Groups button → enter the passphrase → confirm.
Once you’re in, your current timer status (working, on break, or idle) becomes visible to other group members, and theirs becomes visible to you. Nothing else is shared — no session history, no intents, no personal data beyond your display name and current mode.
What you see in a group
The Groups view shows each member’s:
- Display name
- Current mode — working, on break, or idle
- Time in current mode — how long they’ve been working or on break
The Groups button on the main screen shows a pulsing indicator when any group member is active — green for working members, blue for members on break.
Status updates from group members arrive approximately every 10 seconds.
Nudges
You can send a nudge to any group member — a brief, soundless notification they’ll receive on their device.
To send a nudge: tap a member’s name in the group view.
There’s a 30-second cooldown per member, so nudges can’t be sent in rapid succession.
Incoming nudges appear as a quiet notification: “[Name] nudged you.”
Leaving a group
You can leave a group at any time in the Groups view. Once you leave, your status is no longer visible to that group, and you stop receiving updates from them.
FAQ
Can I be in multiple groups at once?
Yes. You can join multiple groups using different passphrases.
Who can see my status?
Only users who have joined the same group using the same passphrase.
Does being in a group affect my timer or break bank?
No. Groups are read-only observers. Your timer behavior is entirely unchanged.
What happens if I close the app — do I appear offline?
Your status reflects your last known timer state. If you were working when you closed the app, you’ll appear as working to group members until your state changes.
Do I need an account to use groups?
Yes. Groups require signing in so your identity can be associated with the group.
